Queering materiality and language, Pablo Vindel reimagines presence, absence, and belonging—crafting spaces of and for transformation.
From her(e) to now(here) is a meditative series of smartphone photographs capturing the ephemeral traces of condensation trails in the sky over an 18-month period (March 2017 to October 2018). Available in separate editions in English and Spanish, the book was hand-bound using French link stitch, with covers silkscreened on cotton, the flyleaves featuring die-cut, and single-color risograph printing for both text and images. The book’s handmade nature is further emphasized by an origami-like, architectural wrapping, printed with a wood stamp that includes the edition number.
Additionally, an edition of two distinct images of trails featured in the book, silkscreened with blue ink on natural 100% Gampi (silk tissue) paper, measuring 45.7 x 61 cm | 18 x 24 in. (each), was selected in 2019 as a finalist in Premios Nacionales de Grabado (“Spain’s National Printmaking Awards”) and was included in the group exhibition XXV Premios Nacionales de Grabado at Museo del Grabado Español Contemporáneo, Marbella, Spain.
The publication is both an archive of personal memory and an exploration of time’s passage. The condensation trails trace lines that may never fully be read, much like the unspoken forms of communication we often leave behind. In this way, the book serves as both a «letter to the future» and a form of asemic writing. The work stands as a tribute to the artist’s late mother: the tactile act of unfolding the book mirrors the act of uncovering memory itself—inviting contemplation not just on personal loss, but on the ways in which we trace our histories across time and space.
